Biology science fair projects
Biology is that part of Science where a student learns about living organisms related projects are Biology science fair projects. Which consist of their structure both physical and chemical, development, evolution, and how they function. The world of Biology is vast and it’s also a very interesting subject that many young students get attached to it. To further evolve the minds of students, the schools organize Biology science fair projects. Participating in the project itself is a great deal. The students themselves become keen to show their knowledge with more enthusiasm. Mainly the Science Fair happens once a year. The students are always looking for the day to come when they can show their full knowledge and potential.
Dividing Biology into categories
Biology itself is a vast subject but it is basically divided into three main categories:
-
Botany:
It emphasizes the study of plants. A plant does not necessarily mean big ones but the smallest living bacteria also come under this category. Now you can say that fungi, ferns, algae, and flowering plants are under this category. It is believed by scientists that bacteria fungi and algae are having a kingdom of their kind. Still, these have made an important part of biology as they had been on this earth for a long time.
Botany signifies the ecological study and how other living species are connected with the plants. There is a class of botanists who are looking for new species and somewhat have even discovered them. Experiments are made as to how they are living in their particular environment and how well they are surviving. Studying the structure of plants and detailing the fine individual cells. As the world is changing there have been many changes to the plants as well had been evolved.
-
Zoology:
It is a study that is related to the study of the animal kingdom. There are many different kinds of animals which had been roaming on earth for many years. Some of them are extinct and some have evolved while there are some who had not even changed a bit. Zoology is relatively divided into two different groups:
- a) Vertebrate Zoology: In this category, the animals are having backbones like mammals, reptiles, fish, birds, and amphibians.
- b) Invertebrate Zoology: Here are the animals which are lacking the backbones like shellfish, insects, worms, and spiders.
(Animals with single cells are not included)
The biologist who studies the animal is termed a zoologist. The study is made for the characteristics, ecology structure, environment, and functions of animals. Also, it is necessary to have a love for animals which is a basic necessity. With study there points which have to be taken into consideration:
- a) Interaction of animals with the environment.
- b) Growth, predation, reproduction, nutrition, social interactions, and prey.
- c) Physiology and Anatomy of animals
-
Microbiology:
Micro means small and as we know Biology means the study of living things. With this, we reach the point of the study of small living things. These small things are not visible to naked eyes and some special instruments are needed like a microscope. Many of the time these small living creatures are termed Micro-organisms or Microbes. A few examples of them are Microscopic Algae, Yeasts, Fungi, Protozoa, Viruses, Archaea, and Bacteria. Even when we are getting flu it is also a cause of Microbes.
The Microbes were discovered many years above by different scientists and yet there are many tiny living creatures that are not discovered. The area of Microbiology includes parasitological, mycology, bacteriology, physiology, and a few others. Mostly the discovered microorganisms fall under the category of eukaryotes or prokaryotes. The study is also made to know how these microbes react with other food, drinks, farming, and many other things.
What kind of projects are to be taken for Biology science fair projects?
Biology is a vast subject and covers a wider range of science. When taking the project make sure to keep your keen interest in mind. Like if you love animals then zoology or you like plants then Botany is your thing. Or if you like to play with instruments and want to explore then Microbiology is the one to look for. Participating in the science fair itself is a great opportunity for a student to show their gained knowledge. Also with the fair, the students are able to find many answers on there which is a great achievement for them. Here are some examples of the types of projects that can be taken:
Botany
- a) Why do some plants grow upwards?
- b) Leaning towards a light.
- c) Have your own Beanhouse.
- d) The different structures of vegetables and fruits?
- e) Grow a stem garden.
- f) The leaf skeleton.
Zoology
- a) How a chick is breathing when it’s inside the shell.
- b) Regenerating parts of worms.
- c) Favorite soil types of worms.
- d) What do ants do when they are inside a drawn circle?
- e) What kind of climate do the migrating birds like?
- f) How do mosquitoes live in water?
Microbiology
- a) How do soaps keep the germs away?
- b) The culture of Yogurts.
- c) How does Yeast work?
- d) How many microbes are around us?
- e) What kind of microorganisms does your drinking water is having?
- f) Cell membrane in different microorganisms.
Getting ready for Biology Science Fair
Before selecting any type of Biology science fair project it is necessary to know that which topic is comfortable for you to perform. There are various topics which are easy and hard. For students participating for the first time, the hard ones will not bring any benefits. The judges will be there and they will surely be going to ask questions which can be difficult to answer. Taking the project which is easy for beginners is the best recommendation.
The second thing to keep in mind is the resources and they should be available and the ease of using them. Microbiology is the part where instruments are required and these instruments are costly. Therefore it is necessary to take full precautions while using and let others use them. Lastly, have more practice sessions to keep yourself ready.
