Forestry Management System Project in Java

December 1, 2015 by ProjectsGeek 2 Comments

Forestry Management System

Project Objective

The Forestry Management System will ease and facilitate the work of various organizations that depend upon natural resources from forests for their work. Forestry management becomes important as more companies become engaged in forest related endeavours. This system can be hosted over the internet thereby enabling communication between forest plots and the different clients such as mills or other such raw material providers. The different modules of the Forestry Management System enable different functions ranging from maintenance of land records to management of inventories.

The system will store information on the land parcels owned, track historical changes in ownership and even maintain a digital database of their deeds. Modern laws require accountability for the exploitation for any natural resource in the forest and different laws and rights cover the mineral and timber resources. The system will have a database of these rights as it pertains to different parts of the landholding. The system can also pursue active functions such as email reminders to the appropriate management levels to indicate upcoming tax related or other actions. These are designed to make the arduous task of forestry management easier. The storage of historical information such as payments, legal documents, transaction slips, tax assessments will further facilitate the process of land valuation as and when it is required.

The system also helps track client needs and schedule deliveries accordingly. Yard space is limited and maintaining low inventories is key to lowering operating costs. The system being internet based will enable the easy passage of client side demands to the forestry business deep in the woods. Having the updated information about client demands and the current status of client inventory can enable the forestry business to plan deliveries such that no client experiences a shortage of raw material.  Extra information such as warnings, suspensions can be passed on as well. The system will have information on the different types and weights of wood and can ensure that the right load is sent to the right client.

Existing System

The existing system depends upon the maintenance of various ledgers or excel sheets at each point of this supply chain. It is rife with inconsistencies between two comparable records. A supervisor who supervises the loading of many different loads may find it easier to update many records at once at a later time and this can lead to inaccuracies. Clients call the wooding station once their inventory has dwindled to schedule a delivery but wooding stations may find it difficult to suddenly accommodate new demands. The many land records are largely incomplete and contract records are maintained independently leading to disagreements when contract settlements are made.

Proposed System

The proposed system will ensure that one operation including data entry and logging is completed as soon as the operation is completed, this helps greatly minimize inaccuracies due to human error. Clients do not have to worry about stoppage of work due to lack of material, with updated client inventory information made available to the forestry business deliveries can be scheduled before hand so as to meet projected demand. Historically accurate and complete land records helps avoid unnecessary problems with local law enforcement and helps for further sales, tax payments and land valuation. Both the client and the forestry business can peruse the same database and are assured that no one side will have independent control over the records and this enables amiable contract settlements.

Modules

Land: This will store all the land records and the various rights assigned to all the resources in each of the land parcels. All reminders related to land related payments and other issues will be made here.

Client: Client accounts will be created by the Admin. Contracts will be stored under the client account and all contract related information can be accessed from the same. Clients will be able to continually update their inventory information and projected demand through this module.

Scheduler: The scheduler will take in information such as current inventory at the forestry business and the projected demand and inventory information at the client side. Using this information it will be able to schedule transport and assign the right load to the right client.

Admin: The admin will be able to assign secure logins to new clients. The admin CANNOT alter record information but can add new data after authentication. The admin module can view inventory and contract settlement data and will show the contract information for verification by the forestry business.

Stores Management System Project in Java

November 30, 2015 by ProjectsGeek 2 Comments

Stores Management System

Project Objective

The Stores Management system will enable a chain of stores to coordinate with their supplier to facilitate on time supply and to maintain updated information about available stocks at each store.

This Stores Management System can be hosted over either an intranet or over the internet. For stores owned by the manufacturer the system can be operated over a company wide network to enable transfer of information. In the case of various dealers selling shoes made by the manufacturer it may be easier to host the system over the internet.

The system has two main functions, to inform the manufacturer of dealer requirement of stocks and to maintain records of all dealer transactions. It is desirable for the dealer to maintain only the required amount of stocks so as to reduce warehousing charges. The dealer can place orders to the manufacturer in two ways:

  1. By explicitly ordering a specific quantity of stocks to be delivered on a particular day.
  2. By setting a requirement that the manufacturer maintains a minimum amount of stock at the dealer warehouse. When the stock dips beyond a specific value an automatic buy order will be generated for the manufacturer to fulfil.

All records of these transactions will be maintained and cash payments can be made at a later date.

The Stores Management System will keep track of the unique Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) of the products sent to each store. The Cost Price of the product will be set by the manufacturer and this is the amount the dealer will be required to pay the manufacturer. The Selling Price of the product can be set by the dealer based on their requirement. Whenever new stocks arrive at the dealer’s warehouse it will be updated in the system along with the SKU. When this product is sold at a store it will be deducted from the dealer’s inventory and the customer details along with the SKU of the product sold will be recorded.

The system will be able to generate reports about daily, monthly sales and based on historical information predict the demand of coming months. This will help dealers and the manufacturer to prepare for upcoming festive seasons when shopping increases.

Existing System

The existing Stores Management System consists of maintenance of individual ledgers or excel sheets by both the manufacturer and the dealer. The manufacturer will have to resolve differences between both the records before cash settlements can be done. This task becomes daunting when the manufacturer has to deal with dealers spread out over the country. The dealer will have to manually go through ledgers on a daily basis to decide when it is time to place a new buy order. It is also difficult to spot trends in shopping patterns.

Proposed System

The proposed Stores Management System will ensure that both the manufacturer and the dealer is working with just one version of records so as to avoid discrepancies. The manufacturer need not worry about working with different dealers in different parts of the country. The tracking of SKU will help identify changes in stock and in the unfortunate event of a product recall it will make it easier to identify the customers who bought a defective product. It is easy to spot spikes in shopping and plan accordingly for the same.

Modules

Manufacturer: The manufacturer will be able to create new login IDs for new dealers and set the Cost Price for different products. They will be able to track contract details and payment due on different contracts.

Dealer: The dealer will be able to initiate single or recurring buy orders. This module will alert the manufacturer about changes in stocks and expected shipments. The dealer will be able to observe historical sale data and use this to determine future demand and order accordingly. The dealer will also be able to set the Selling Price for each product.

Admin:  The admin will be able to control manufacturer login IDs and access.

Employee Performance Portal

Project Objective

Employee Performance Portal will address a dire need of companies in the 21’st century, the need to recognize the hard work of their employees. This portal will enable performance – appraisals of employees to be conducted over a network (LAN or WAN) thereby enabling organization – wide access and editing privileges. Cash incentives and promotions depend upon these appraisals and the whole process becomes simpler with this portal.

The Employee Performance Portal in itself will comprise of modules that will facilitate interaction between employees and managers. The employees will be able to enter the requisite details such as the on – job duties completed and performance measures that have been worked upon and other such information. Further this data can be used by the various managers to accurately analyse and rate employee performance. The portal will contain information such as completed duties and work targets reached on an hourly, daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly or annual basis. There will also be a provision for managers to provide valuable feedback or areas of improvement to the employee. All users of the portal will be informed about employees who achieve stellar ratings and this culture of praise for hard work will motivate more employees to strive for positive ratings.

Easy and secure access to the portal is a necessity, therefore this portal can be hosted either on a Local Area Network such as a local company network or on a Wide Area Network such as the internet. Hosting on the internet will enable companies with spread out branches to share personnel details such as bio and performance statistics from a centrally located server. Each user will have secured access to the portal and will have to receive security credentials for access from the company IT department. This Employee Performance Portal system will be beneficial for the hiring functions of the company as well. It will enable the HR department to centrally store biographical details of every employee. They will also be able to spot trends between performance and biographical details and this will assist them in future hiring activities.

Existing System

The existing Employee Performance Portal system consists of excel sheets accumulated from each employee. Each employee submits excel sheets to their superior who consolidates them into a single sheet. The superior in question will have to make sure each sheet is error – free and then perform tedious calculations to find ratings for employees based on completed duties and work targets reached. The manager will have to use excel macros to convert the data into palatable graphs for review by upper level management

Proposed System

The Employee Performance Portal aims to take over the duties of the existing system, in the process it will reduce the time required for performance appraisals, reduce user entry errors, enable global sharing of the reports and provide performance information in an appeasing graphical format. It will also assist in other day – to – day HR requirements such as hiring and maintenance of personnel information.

Module Description

Administrator: This will enable all the administrative tasks of the portal such as management of records and view total statistics. The security functions of the portal such as new logins will also be managed from here.

Employee: Each employee of the company will have an employee login which will enable them to submit information required by their immediate superiors for their appraisal.

Supervisor: This is the login module for the manager who can view the records of their subordinates and evaluate their performance. This is where they will provide their ratings and submit to their superiors.

Reviewer:This is the final module where the upper level managers view and review the reports made by the Supervisor for their employees.

College Book Management System Java project

November 28, 2015 by ProjectsGeek Leave a Comment

College Book Management System

Project Objective

College Book Management SystemThe aim of this College Book Management System is the management of a college library. It will facilitate the process of finding and checking out books from college libraries. College libraries generally hold books numbering in the tens of thousands and a single student will find it daunting to simply find out if a certain book is available. A database of the books in a library will be maintained. A librarian can update this database using the Admin module. This database will carry important information about the book such as the title, author’s name, date of publication, publisher and the ISBN (International Standard Book Number). Each book will be assigned a unique serial number and a bar code with the same will be stuck in the book.

When a student checks out a book, the librarian will access the check – out form and the bar code can be scanned, it will automatically store date and time of check – out, roll number of student checking out the book and the serial number of the book, the system will also automatically reduce the number of available copies of the book on the book database. When a student returns the book, the system will check if the book return was delayed and charge an amount accordingly and then it will update the book database to indicate the return of the book to the library. Students will also be able to access a student module of the system. This module will enable them to check a book’s availability and it will also enable them to reserve a copy of the book for a fee. If a student does not collect the reserved copy from the library within 12 hours of reservation the reservation will be cancelled without refund of the reservation fee. This measure can avoid students thronging the library in search of books.

Existing System

In the existing College Book Management System, each book has a card where the details of the person who issued the book is written and the librarian maintains a ledger and collects the cards of the books. It is difficult to find out how many copies of the books remain and calculating any delays in book return is a time consuming process.

Proposed System

In the proposed College Book Management System, the whole process is automated to a degree. All the librarian has to do is to scan the book bar code both on check – out and return. The College Book Management System will automatically log details of the person issuing and calculate late return charges. The system also enables students to find out about the availability of books they require and reserve copies. This helps reduce incidents of students rushing to the library to find a particular book.

Modules

Admin: The admin module will be able to edit the database of books. Books can be added, deleted or the information can be edited. The admin module will also be able to view statistics of book issuing, this will help the library make future decisions about which books to purchase and in what quantity. The admin module is also responsible for creating login ID’s for new students in the college.

Librarian: The librarian module can access the book check out and book return forms. They will be able to scan the bar codes of the books using these forms. The librarian will also be responsible for collecting late return fees as indicated by the system.

Student: The student module can be used to access information about book availability and reservation of book copies.

Online University Management Java Project

November 28, 2015 by ProjectsGeek Leave a Comment

Online University Management

Project Objective

This Online University Management system can be used to manage and keep track of information such as lecture times, lecture attendance and student marks. This system will serve as a useful interface between lecturers and the students. This system will be hosted on the college intranet so as to prevent outside hacks into the system. After a student has signed up for the lectures for a semester the system will automatically create a student schedule. The lecturer can also schedule extra lectures using this system and the system will automatically parse the schedules of all the students attending the lecture to find and resolve any scheduling conflicts.

Lecturers will be able to access the system in the classroom and take attendance directly using the software. This attendance will automatically be logged in and both the students and lecturer will be able to access this information at any time. Students will be informed if they are close to being short of the required attendance. Lecturers will also be able to post marks for the various tests and exams using this system. Students need not have to crowd at the lecturer’s office for the same. Students can also raise doubts about the marks awarded and the attendance noted using this system. The system will maintain a record of doubts and the lecturer can personally resolve these doubts.

At the end of the semester students have to submit documents pertaining to their attendance or marks to the academic department for verification, this process can be automated with the presence of this system. The system will automatically collate the attendance and mark details for each student individually and submit verified reports of the same.

Existing system

The existing Online University Management system consists of different attendance and mark files maintained by the lecturer. These file have to be verified and collated by an official before it can be entered into the official record. Students often have to pester their lecturers or the academic department to view their attendance details and marks before publication and only then are they able to raise any doubts about the same. There is a whole lot of paper that is wasted in this whole process as well.

Proposed system

The proposed Online University Management system will be entirely maintained on the college intranet, this will ensure that students will be able to easily access this information at any time. Constant access to this information will enforce accountability both on the lecturer’s part to update the information and on the student’s part to ensure that the data is accurate. End of semester formalities will become easier with access to an automatically collated and verified report. Lecturers will also be able to easily schedule extra classes for students. Students can be ensured that the system will inform them about any extra class.

Modules

Admin: The admin module will be able to create login IDs for the student and the lecturer. The admin module will have to enter the courses that a student has been enrolled for at the start of the year. The admin module can also download the collated reports for the student at the end of the semester.

Lecturer:The lecturer module will inform the lecturer about the lectures they are supposed to take. The lecturer can enter the attendance and the marks of each student on this system. The lecturer can also view any doubts raised by students about the attendance and marks using this system.

Student: The student module will enable students to view their attendance and mark information. Students will have to verify the courses they are enrolled in at the start of the year. They can also use the system to raise any doubts with their lecturer regarding their attendance and marks.

Placement Automation System Project in Java

November 27, 2015 by ProjectsGeek Leave a Comment

Placement Automation System

Project Objective

This Placement Automation System project aims to build a Placement Automation System that will facilitate the interaction between college students, the placement cell of the college and the recruiting companies. The system will maintain student information such as grades, courses taken, endorsements from faculty, etc. All this student information will be uploaded by the student and will be made public after verification by the placement cell.

Placement Automation System

The whole system will be on line and can be accessed by the company’s recruiters through a secure login ID. This will ensure that companies that visit for recruitment can review student credentials even before they reach the campus and they can also share these credentials with upper management remotely. The system will be updated by job postings by the companies. Companies will be able to share information regarding the job, payment and selection procedure. A schedule for the recruiting drive will also be posted. Students who meet the criteria will be able to apply and will then be notified at each stage of the recruitment.

Further information about the company can be gathered by students. Students will be given the opportunity to go through the company websites, employer review sites (such as glassdoor.com), etc and a profile for the company can be created. Students who create such a profile will be mentioned as the contributor and the company will also be notified about which students took a keen interest in knowing about the company. This will enable all the students in the recruitment drive to be well read about the company before attending the interview.

The Placement Automation System will also enable the placement cell to easily spot trends and note statistics. For example the system will enable the placement cell to find which type of company attracts the most students and how many students prefer greater growth opportunities vs. higher salaries.

Existing system

The existing Placement Automation System is for the placement cell to send out mass e – mails or through the presence of posters at a central location. This Placement Automation System requires that a student constantly peruses their e – mail of the posters to remain informed about the placement process. Every company that appears for recruitment will demand student credentials and the lack of a computerised system for the same means that students will have to make many copies for each company they interview for. In the existing systems surveys will be taken separately to gauge the interest and the other trends in placements. Statistics will be calculated after placements by compilation of all the different documents used for the placement.

Proposed system

In the proposed Placement Automation System students need not worry about innumerable copies of each certificate, instead the system will enable a greener and less paper intensive approach to placements. Companies will be able to access student credentials on line and these can be shared to managers located elsewhere before a final decision is taken. The possibility for student research into the company will give students an avenue to impress the company even before the interview and it will help many more students to understand the company they are interviewing for. The automated system will be able to produce graphs on trend and statistics on demand for use by the placement cell.

Placement Automation System  Snapshots

Module

Admin: The admin module of Placement Automation System will be used by the placement cell. Through this module login IDs can be created for students and the recruiting companies. Statistics and trends can be viewed through this module as well. The admin will be able to approve job postings by the companies, student researched information of a company and student credentials post verification.

Student: The student will be able to browse company job profiles, submit reviews and apply to profiles they like. This module will send automated messages to a student about the profiles they have applied to and automatic notifications will ensure no deadlines are missed.

Company: The recruiting company can use this to post job profiles, browse student credentials, short-list students based on credentials and accept students for the recruitment process. They will post updates about the process through this system. They can also use this system to schedule individual meetings with a few students for further clarification.
